The extreme rage of Charizard in the Pokémon world has formed a huge market for free Charizard drawing tutorials.
You asked for it, so we delivered. Finally, we have created a step-by-step guide on how to draw Charizard simplified with 9 simple steps and illustrations.
You only need a pen and paper, and you can start drawing! Have fun, and use your imagination to bring Charizard to dash!
How to Draw Charizard
Step 1
Starting at the top left intersection of the paper, draw an irregular circle to outline Charizard’s head.
The shape should be wider than long, as shown in the picture.
Step 2
To complete the design, draw two triangular forms on Charizard’s head.
Next, draw a sideways oval shape at the bottom of the circular shape we drew earlier, forming Charizard’s snout.
This shape should be significantly wider than we drew in the previous step. You are welcome to use the illustration as a guide!
Remember not to press too hard with the pen when outlining. It is important to draw with light strokes to erase unnecessary lines later easily.
Step 3
Use an eraser to remove the overlapping lines inside the shapes we drew in the previous steps.
This will reveal a faint outline of Charizard’s head.
Step 4
Now that we’ve completed the outline of the head let’s move on to its body.
Just below Charizard’s head, draw an elongated, curved shape to create the neck and entire torso. Remember to accentuate your stomach and make it look round.
Step 5
Make Charizard’s limbs by drawing a curved stripe on each side at the base of the torso, pointing to the right side.
This outlines Charizard’s legs. Next, draw another curved line connecting directly to the earlier ones to create both feet.
After completing this step, the Charizard’s pair of legs should be complete.
Step 6
Draw an elongated, curved shape on each side of Charizard’s body near his chest. This creates both arms of Charizard.
Remember to draw a curved line along Charizard’s chest as well! This forms the lower body of Charizard.
Step 7
Structure the tail by drawing an elongated triangular shape that attaches to Charizard’s lower back.
Next, draw a thin line inside the tail to form the outline of its underside. The triangular shape should curve upwards, as shown in the picture.
Remember to add a flame to the tip of the tail – it’s one of Charizard’s signature features!
Step 8
Create Charzard’s wings by drawing the bone structure in an inverted “V” shape. Next, draw curved lines that connect at the bottom, forming a triangular wing.
When drawn correctly, Charizard’s wings should be shaped like the wings of a bat.
Since Charizard is looking to the side, only his right wing is visible.
Step 9
Make Charizard happy by creating his facial features! Start by drawing two oval shapes to outline the eyes. Next, draw small circles in each eye to create the iris.
Complete the eyes by shading all the space inside the eyes except for the small circles. This creates a dramatic “glitter eye” effect.
To create the nose, draw two small shaded circles next to each other.
As you can see, your drawing of Charizard has finally come to life! Now it’s just a touch of color away from making Charizard look vibrant and colorful!
Now that we’ve successfully drawn a Charizard, it’s time for the fun part: picking colors and coloring in your drawing.
Charizard is originally orange in color with a cream underside. Its pair of wings, on the other hand, is blue-green.
You can colorize your drawing with Charizard’s original colors or manually select a unique color set.
If mixing and matching colors sounds fun, you can customize the colors of your drawing. It all depends on you! After all, it’s your work of art!
